- The Colosseum was built in 70-80 AD, at least 114 years after the death of Julius Caesar
- The Colossus of Nero, erected during Nero's reign (37-68 AD), predated the Colosseum, and that the phrase, "QUAMDIU STAT COLYSAEUS STAT ET ROMA: QUANDO CADET COLYSAEUS CADET ET ROMA; QUANDO CADET ROMA CADET ET MUNDUS" was actually referring to the Colossus, but after its disappearance the phrase was understood as the Colosseum. The Colosseum may have gotten it's name derived from this Colossus of Nero
- A famous landmark, the Arch of Titus, was erected in 82 AD, ranging 12-2 years after the Colosseum was built. Both landmarks still stand today and have since influenced many buildings. The arch has been the model of any triumphant arch built since the 16th century, and the Colosseum has influenced many stadiums
- Emperor Nero's Domus Aurea, built around 64-68 AD, only a few years before the completion of the Colosseum, was constructed on the Palatine hill, and its remains are found underneath the ruins of The Baths of Trajan.
- The fall of Rome, 476 AD, was around 400 years after the construction of the Colosseum.
- The Temple of Vesta, having been rebuilt multiple times, was last rebuilt by Julia Domna in 191 AD, around 120 years after the construction of the Colosseum. The ruins now found in the forum are of this last reconstruction
- The Regia was burned and restored as a result of the Gallic Wars, in 148 BC and in 36 BC, predate the Colosseum by at least 200 years
- Temple of Castor and Pollux was dedicated in 484 BC, around 500 years before the Colosseum was constructed, and 400 years before Rome became Imperium Romanum. In 117 BC, it was rebuilt by L. Cecilius Metellus Dalmaticus after his victory over the Dalmatians. In 73 BC, it was restored by Gaius Verres. In 14 BC, a fired destroyed it except the podium
